Wood Window Restoration

Wood windows are transformed from degraded, rotten and worn to a fully functional, eye-catching feature on the building. Restoration Process

  1. Conduct a field survey of existing frame and sash components, glazing type, hardware, and potential abatement issues.
     
  2. Catalog and remove existing components to be shop restored.
     
  3. Board up and protect all components to be field restored, leaving all components that would be damaged if removed.
     
  4. The restoration process includes the following steps for shop or field work:
    • Deglaze all sashes, storing or disposing of all glass.
    • Strip and clean/neutralize all wood components.
    • Epoxy patch and consolidate all failing wood components.
    • Provide millwork replacement and repair of all missing or damaged wood.
    • Final sand and clean all sashes to prepare for glazing and finish.
       
  5. Prime coat all frame and sash components.
     
  6. Reglaze all sashes with specified glazing, tape, shims and glazing stops or compound.
     
  7. Apply two finish coats of specified paint or coating.
     
  8. Kerf cut all sash edges to apply new weather stripping and bulb gaskets.
     
  9. Install new or reconditioned hardware, matching existing finish.
     
  10. Complete field assembly of all components, clean and adjust for final punch list.
